About us
Skills that pay, explained clearly
The Craftsman’s Shelf publishes practical guidebooks for people who work with their skills, and for people who want to. Each book takes one trade and explains it from the basics to working professionally: how things work, the tools and methods, safety, quality, customer service, and how to build a career or start a small business.
Who our books are for
- Students and trainees in ITIs, polytechnics, vocational courses and skill centres
- Job seekers and people changing careers

Our motto: skills you can use
Every book is written to help you prepare for work or self-employment. Each one ends with a career roadmap covering jobs, typical starting pay, recognised qualifications, where to find work and how to start your own business. Explore careers.
